When is a virus not a virus?
Tags: General
So I have to ask this question, and the answer is simple when it is the virus protector spreading itself.
This caused a headache that is for sure. Yesterday I was given the task of implementing unit testing into our application project, after downloading CFUnit and the cf-ant to work with Eclipse I began getting very strange error messages.
When I spoke to our java guys about JUnit having a package inside the jar file, they said no that is impossible. So he downloaded it and nope it wasn't.
So I said ok just for arguments sake, try downloading it this time with IE instead of Firefox. Sure enough insdide the package was this extra package.
It turns out that Micro Trends, have a package calle IWSS (Interscan Web Security Suite) which when using IE and going through IWSS as a proxy to filter the traffic it embeds a little nasty surprise inside your java packages as well.
Why do these guys do that, is it not bad enough that viruses spread in this way for trend to embed such files in these packages as well. And the thing is it is setup to run without your knowledge as well.
That is one head spin I could have done without *S*
