Does Adobe really understand their market
Tags: Coldfusion
First of all, this is about coldfusion and why I think Adobe might not understand the market.
While thinking away, I was wondering why open source is as popular as it is. Then being the noble coldfusion developer that I am, I looked at where it is now and why it is still not where it could be.
The more I think about it the more I realise that life as a Coldfusion developer is harsh, now I say that in the sense that we are a niche market (can't vouch for any other country but us Aussies) and that we really are not getting the support we deserve.
I have a strong passion for Coldfusion, I have stuck by it as there is a lot of potential for it. But maybe Coldfusion needs to have the marketing model of get their appetite wet and reel them in, that is why is open source has become so popular and so many people are making money from support rather than the sale of the product.
The problem is that more business are looking for more buck for the dollar, open source is providing that and it will continue to florish in ways that Coldfusion might end up left in the smoke screen.
I hope that with the way Apollo has been released, and Flex 2. Maybe it is on the horizon for Coldfusion, but would it be too late?
