Internet Explorer 8 Beta
After reluctantly installing this, for fear of not being able to develop for older versions I was surprised to learn that it is very polished. Now as with most betas there is the bugs, and quirks of older sites that still have difficulty in the new style sheet, JS etc. enhancements.But the one thing that I liked about this beta, is that it has an emulate IE7 mode which works very well for sites that do not work very well under the IE8 engine. But it doesn't end there.
When developing websites, we now have the ability to do something very nifty. There are hacks and KB's on the interent that allow us to run more than one version if IE all the way back to IE5. Well Microsoft seem to have added something that, we as developers can use to our advantage.
There is a new meta tag that can declare all the versions that the page is compatible with, and as the notes say Internet Explorer can only be in one mode. So it will select the highest in the list.
Some of the other modes are as below.
IE7 Standards
IE=7 IE8 Standards IE=8
Best possible mode
IE=edge
Still having a play around with this version, so I'll blog more when I have had the oppurtunity to have that play.
