openBD and share applications
Tags: OpenBD
This blog is more for my benefit than others. There seems to be a problem with using openBD at the moment, when wanting to use the same code base with more than one cfml site. I doubt this is an oversight on the development of openBD, but it is an issue that needs to be mentioned. I also doubt that it is a problem that can't be fixed either, just at the moment I really don't see a need too.
That's only because I would be using the code base with one application at a time anyway, although the needs might change at some point in the future.

Do you mean like the vanilla installation of CFML with a connector to IIS/Apache etc? Other than the ready-rolled Jetty installation I don't think there's been an OpenBD option to suit that style of application hosting so far.
I saw some posts about sharing the common WEB-INF files within Tomcat but haven't been able to make it work so far, to be honest. -
OpenBD behaves the same as CF under a J2EE server. CF installs everything in the cfusion folder and you have to deploy your applications on the same folder. The same with OpenBD. You will have to deploy all your applications in that folder as well.
But nothing is holding you back on copying the openbluedragon and web-inf folder to your application. As a matter of facts, this approach is more secure and more isolated since each application can be configured with just what is needed.# Posted By Nitai Aventaggiato | 5/12/08 6:45 AM -
@David: Yes it works, but if you have read the posts in the mailing list. You will notice that there are issues with a few things.

@Nitai: I am sorry I don't think that is 100% true, the code bas for Coldfusion is the same across standard, Multi Server and Enterprise. The difference is the config files, otherwise the code has the exact same entry points.
What that means is that the code is setup to share applications (your cfml), openBD has been identified with this as a bug and a patch will be available soon.# Posted By Andrew Scott | 5/12/08 8:57 AM -
@Andrew - yes, just catching up with posts and stuff now, fair enough. In terms of hosting I'd like it just to work as one set of server files with an Apache connector, like the base install of BD7 would offer. Having said that, the BD connector used to give me nightmares by crashing rather often!

@David: Yeah I agree, thats why I made the comment that I do not see a need for it at the moment. Because I am more inclined to be developing enterprise rather than anything else.
