Should ColdFusion adopt AS3 syntax?

When the news of what ColdFusion may or may not have in the next release, people have sparked a lot of discussion to adopt AS3 into ColdFusion. However I am just not going to agree it ever be adopted, and for many reasons.

Now after having said that there are some other options. Now before this gets into a debate on why it should, let me explain that ColdFusion has a market, that is more than the developers who are using AS3. And it will be that market that will always drive the future of ColdFusion, so I did say there are some options and maybe many more.

But lets look at option number one: If you are that passionate about AS3 support from a server, can I suggest that maybe look at adopting the demand, for Adobe to maybe serioulsy look at a 2 language solution. Aka C# or VB/Net. This would allow for the 2 languages to mature, in the direction that they both deserver.

Now I think the above idea, is something to lobby for but it will take time.

So that leads me to think about the second option: The open source community exists, for this very reason. There is nothing for a group of evangalists (AS3), get together and steer towards using java ScriptEngine / ScriptEngineManager to bring to life that as a reality now. It still may take time, and who knows if you ask the right people. They may even help it along the way.

In the second option, that is also something that you could even pitch back to Adobe to get them to adopt method one.

Something to ponder..
