Windows permission problems

Over the weekend I had done a fair amount of ripping my music onto the Hard Drive, to later use on my iPod. I later came across some I had done a few years ago, and tried to copy it over to my portable drive. This posed a problem for me when I did that, because the information needed to tell the software I use to catalogue the music which needed the information filled in, which was missing for some reason.

No big deal I thought, so I went and proceeded to enter the Album and Artist information Manually.

This is where I ran into serious trouble!

For some reason it would not let me make the changes I needed to make, no matter what I tried or attempted it refused to allow me to do this. The frustration that I began to feel on this, was that the security permissions where the same as the rest of the files and directories here. Yet I couldn't figure out what the problem is, I couldn't see any reasonable factor that would stop me from doing this.

To cut a long story short, I decided to take ownership of the files and found that this was what it should have been too. In the end as a last resort I opened up my media manager application, and then proceeded to try and modify the details in that instead. Bingo!!

So why did Windows decide to be stupid about this, and would allow me to modify the details in the other directories but not this one. I doubt I will never know, this is not the first time I have run into this issue and usually I re-take the ownership of the files or directories and I am off and running again.

Just not in this case. But the worst thing to add salt to the injury, was that once I used the media manager I use to change the details. I am able to manually do it at within Windows Explorer again, who knows why or what happened as I certainly have no clue.
