Australian TV station gets a kick in the butt
Tags: General
I guess most people would have heard by now that IceTV an Australian company in Sydney, has won a case that should make the TV stations maybe wake up to the fact that they can no longer do business in the past.
Hell if anything should or could be learned by the Global Financial down turn that has transpired, the old school of thinking just doesn't work any more.
IceTV won a long-running court battle that the Nine Network here in Australia might not like, but it basically says that even the judge in the High Court is more aware of current trends by consumers than the station itself.
We live in a world that has seen Collaboration of information take on a whole new meaning in the last 4-5 years, Socially and in business and yet the Nine Network wants to keep information regarding what they are showing on their channel a secret as proprietary information. The way I see this is that the station can continue to that if they wish, but the world will not tolerate it and I am sure they have to be able to see what sort of impact this can cause to their business.
The thing that makes this a real problem to the station is that they are a free to air station, and struggle to keep people tuned into their station as it is now. But what would kick them in the pants is the attitude that they think that they can keep the TV guide away from the collaboration of information, and not alienate people with the technology advancements that are going on around them. In my eyes that is like saying we are here and if you want to watch us, then you will have to guess when things are going to be on and you have to be there and then to watch it otherwise we don't care how you live your lives. So as most people have a fairly busy life style as it is now, anyone who doesn't make that any easier is going to fail as a business for not being able to keep up with the latest social trends.
