Should you believe anything that Adobe says publicly?

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is no.

So what do I mean, well after listening to a podcast that interviewed Adam Leahman the other day, it is clear that he doesn't make it known to what degree support is meant.

So what do I mean by that?

Let us talk about hot fixes, bug and other updates for a moment. In the past if we talked, mentioned or reported a bug with CF it was always (well almost) included in the next version of ColdFusion.

That is always a good thing, yes?

No it is not. Oh why is that?

Because as Adam has publicly stated, and let me repeat him here. We will always support the current 2 versions that is out there. What he is actually saying is that Adobe are responsible for supporting the current version plus the previous version. As it stands now that means that they should be supporting ColdFusion 7 and ColdFusion 8.

Are they? Technically no they are not.

So why is that so!!

A lot of bugs reported, get fixed and will be released in the next version. Unless it is a critical fix. It is never, let me repeat that. Never released as a hotfix, or an update to the current released or within the supported range of versions that adobe support.

Adobe, we know you create good software. But why do you make us update to the latest when a hotfix is all that is needed? Pure revenue, sorry but we need to make a profit and we will make sure that we force you to upgrade.

That may seem to be harsh, but it is what is publicly available. If you read between the lines of any interview on anyone that is employed by Adobe, you will know that the support for current or previous versions is minimal.

I guarantee that the Adobe CF8 Eclipse plugin will never be updated, there are many bugs with that and ColdFusion 8 that I know will never be released as an update. Adobe prove me wrong, and continue the upgrade, and bug fixes for it. Oh, yeah BOLT or ColdFusion Builder, hmmm. sales killer. That will be one thing Adobe have released that I know and hope to be proven wrong, will never get updated with fixes. ColdFusion 8 and ColdFusion 9, then you only need to compare ColdFusion 7 next to ColdFusion 8 to see how true this is, so many bugs that were in 7 only ever made it to ColdFusion 8, and did we see ColdFusion 7 updated? No we did not!!!!
