ColdFusion Builder will not support Mylyn until version 2

Wow, I was shocked by this from Adobe.

We as developers have been keen on using any tool that will help us get our job done, but it seems Adobe is not interested in doing this.

What does this mean, it means that you should never install ColdFusion Builder as a standalone. If you are serious about development, which Adobe thinks we are not. Then you must use Eclipse, and install ColdFusion Builder as a plug-in.

Adobe has ear marked this as a fix in ColdFusion Builder V2.0, which means that ColdFusion Builder V1.0 is not worth buying until version 2.

Oh well, if they didn't create the bug in the first place, I guess people would be happy to buy it. But as this bug is a cause of Adobe to begin with, be aware that you will not be able to use it to its full potential while using this product as a standalone product.

Be warned.

  • Raymond Camden's Gravatar Um, just because you can't do Mylyn in CFB Standalone doesn't mean you can't do serious dev. I do "serious" dev every day. I've heard of Mylyn, I've tried it before, but didn't care for it.

  • Brian Swartzfager's Gravatar While it's true that ColdFusion Builder does not come with Mylyn built-in (and it should), your post seems to imply that you can't add Mylyn to the stand-alone version of ColdFusion Builder, and that's not the case.  The stand-alone CF Builder lets you add Eclipse plug-ins just like Eclipse does. Marc Esher wrote a blog post about how to do it last year:

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar I didn't mean to imply you can install Mylyn, however the best feature of Mylyn is broken when installed in ColdFusion Builder standalone.
