ColdFusion & Flash Builder serious problems for 64bit users
Tags: Coldfusion
I logged a bug with Adobe regarding 64bit support with their current ColdFusion Builder product, I also stated that the same problem exists with Flash Builder. Since then Adobe have released a new version or should I say a release Candidate of ColdFusion Builder the first release candidate.
Everyone has reported that as a plugin the colour syntax will not work. And the answer is simple, took me two minutes to work out why.
I have 6 versions of eclipse running, with varying plugins and versions as well as platforms. I only had to install the product and change the link for each install.
The only time either the Flash plugin and ColdFusion plugin will work is when you install it as a plugin into a 32 bit version of eclipse.
Why is that?
Here is the reason why.
You will notice that Adobe expects everyone to be using 32 bit software, so they have compiled all software to run in 32 bit mode. The URL amt.win is their software that checks to see if you are entitled to be running the software.
So the question remains why does Adobe force users to work in a 32bit world?
I hope that Adobe fix this really soon, because it means if you already have a 64bit version of Eclipse running you will not be able to install this into that instantiation of Eclipse.
Adobe, people have been telling you for over 3 years to work with 32/64bit software and here is an example that the 2 leading products when it comes to software development on server/client side are both tied to the activation software running in 32bit only.
Adobe you need to wake up to this, and change your ways. Seriously 32bit is old hat now, 64bit is the future.
