ColdFusion as a Service is it a complete solution?
Tags: Coldfusion
In my eyes it is not, but as it stands it offers some good beginnings to something more.
When I first heard of CFaaS I was very sceptical, and although I have been adhering to this concept for many years it was strange to see that ColdFusion was to introduce this as a feature under the hood.
In all hindsight this is very good as a beginning service, but the downside is that you are limited to the CFaaS that is defined by ColdFusion.
Which in my eyes makes this a make shift or unfinished beginning to something more.
Why do I say that?
Simple, there is no way to extend this at the moment. There was an article by Ben Nadel that me thinking that it is possible to extend this, in some degree you could by following his method of interception you could add more services. But if you were to sandbox this, as the ColdFusion Administrator allows then you can't do jack shit.
So the question remains, why did Adobe begin something so powerful only to make it so damn limiting?
In future versions of ColdFusion I would like to see a way to extend, enhance this CFaaS to the point with API's and KB's that allow one to to not only write these CFaaS's but SandBox them in the Administrator as well.

I think your notion that it is "just a start" is very accurate, and I suspect it is in some ways what we are seeing is a limited test and peek at something that will be much more fully implemented in CF 10.

Seriously hope so, but would have been nice if they gave us the knowledge in this release.
