Problem with ColdFusion Builder 2 as a plugin to 64Bit Eclipse

Well I ran into an interesting problem with ColdFusion Builder 2, and the file view just not working. At first I thought it might have been the version of Eclipse called Indigo or better know as Eclipse 3.7, as it turns out it is ColdFusion Builder at fault.

Now I have been running the 64bit version for awhile and hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary, that was till today when I went to use the file view to modify the query.cfc component for cfscript, with the fix that Ray Camden had supplied for me to try.

And what I had noticed is that it just didn't work, nothing is shown.

So I download a fresh version of the 64bit Eclipse Indigo, dropped the plugin in and ran that instance. Nope no view. Then I tried the next version down and continued all the way down to 3.5 all 64bit versions, and all had the same problem. Thinking that this might have been because the trial had run out, I then decided to try the 32bit versions and low and behold the File View worked in every single 32bit version.

Just thought I would throw that out there, I don't use it that much, but it comes damn  handy from time to time though.

  • Big Mad Kev's Gravatar Have you installed the CFB2 Hotfix?

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar No, my understanding is that this only has fixes related to the search feature in ColdFusion Builder 2, now when I ran this hotfix it actually broke my instance big time.

Seeing as I have the express version, that doesn't affect me at the moment.

  • Sean Coyne's Gravatar Mac or Windows? I'm running the 64-bit version in Indigo on Mac OS X Lion and the File View does work. Perhaps its a Windows only issue?

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar @Sean, yes this is on windows. Thanks it just might be a windows problem then, I know it is not a permission problem as if that was the case it wouldn't work in 32bit either.

Btw do you find some of the help topics crashing Eclipse in Indigo?

  • Sean Coyne's Gravatar Hadn't tried the help feature before, but I just did. The Eclipse help opens in an external browser for me, and the ColdFusion Builder help doesn't do anything at all. I do see a new entry in the Error Log view when I try to open it, so its throwing an error, but it doesn't crash Eclipse.

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar I have my help as a view attached to the side of my workspace perspective, and when I click on say the help icon in the File View it opens that view up. As soon as I then click on something in that link, it then crashes with an Eclipse Exception window.

Wondering if this is another thing that is different between the Mac and Windows?

  • Sean Coyne's Gravatar I just clicked the help icon on the File View. It opened up the Help view, displayed a link to see more info about the File View. When I click that link, I see errors in the Error Log view, but Eclipse stays responsive, no crash, but I also don't see the help for the File View either. Its currently "Indexing help..." so that could be why I don't see the actual help content, but its not crashing, so perhaps that is another Mac vs Windows difference.

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar @Sean, certainly looks like it then.

  • Sud's Gravatar Is Eclipse 3.7 supported as a platform for ColdFusion Builder 2? I don't think so. You should see the supported platform matrix.

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar @sud, you didn't read my post in its full then :-)

  • Sud's Gravatar Ok, but I'm able to run it. It might be a machine specific, did you try installing it on other machine. May be some permission. Did you ask Adobe about this. You should post something on their forum probably someone would help.

  • Andrew Scott's Gravatar @Sud, and how are you able to run it? Are you on windows or Mac, as the comments have shown on the Mac it appears to be fine.

If you are on Windows are you running it as standalone or as a plug-in, 32Bit or 64Bit if as a plugin?

If it was the computer as you suggest, I would have thought that the 32Bit version would also have the same problem, it doesn't and suggests that it is a 64Bit version problem.

Interested to know your configuration Sud.
