How do you protect your Laptop?

After reading a news report, were the victim was able to help police recover his own laptop. Got me to thinking about my own security, mainly my desktop.-

I had a quick look at that site Shannon, now I would need to read how it works fully. But I have a problem with software solutions, due to the fact that a stolen laptop would be very quickly reformatted and represented as second hand.
Sure there are times, like the news article I posted.
