IE8 Compatibility mode is it worth anything to future development?

First lets look at why Microsoft introduced this feature into IE8, and in the words of Microsoft.

"In a nutshell, Compatibility View allows content designed for older web browsers to still work well in Internet Explorer 8"

However this is not the case at all.

New Microsoft Campaign is it to keep existing users?

As most people will be aware by now Microsoft has started a new campaign that seems to be having mixed feelings through the community, but the question is that are Microsoft looking at converting Mac users over or trying to keep their existing users?

Free Flex 3 license round 2 USA now follows the UK lead

Well it seems that everyone is blogging how Adobe is giving away a free Flex 3 license to unemployed developers, and I am not going to jump on that same bandwagon.

Windows 7 and a nice little gem - Problem Steps Reporter

One of the things that is sometimes hard when dealing with support, is trying to understand what the user does to create an error or problem. The hardest part for us trying to deal with these customers is always the same, trying to understand what they mean when they actually are not sure what they are trying to describe.

So that brings us to this little gem.

Conficker Worm

This maybe old news for most, but as I really only saw it on the news today I thought I would write a quick blog about it anyway.

Windows permission problems

Over the weekend I had done a fair amount of ripping my music onto the Hard Drive, to later use on my iPod. I later came across some I had done a few years ago, and tried to copy it over to my portable drive. This posed a problem for me when I did that, because the information needed to tell the software I use to catalogue the music which needed the information filled in, which was missing for some reason.

No big deal I thought, so I went and proceeded to enter the Album and Artist information Manually.

This is where I ran into serious trouble!

Microsoft can you get anything right, part 2!!

Well it seems I am on a role today with Microsoft, and after playing with Windows 7 for sometime now. I decided to migrate some settings from Vista, over to Windows 7 so that I could begin to use it more efficently.

But I discovered a flaw that made me laugh. In my previous post on the subject title, I discovered that even the most simplest of things don't get tested when streaming albums over to the Xbox 360.

Now I discovered a Windows easy transfer problem, that just makes that last statement even more so.

Windows 7 is this microsoft's way of pushing it's users away?

One of the things that has annoyed me is the attitude of the founder of Microsoft, since the begining Bill Gates has made it very public how he started Microsoft. And to this day the ramifications of this strategy, remains to be the dominating force that Microsoft now has on the market.

Windows fails to boot, can one recover the data

The answer will always be yes, provided that the HD has not been erased with security in mind.

Well a few weeks ago, I was given a laptop to use and I do not know what I did. But it refused to boot anymore, and restoring from original CD was not an option.

It appears that Windows Vista, locked the Hard drive from further use.

So what did I do!

Windows Vista & UAC WTF?

After many months, well a year to be precise. I decided to switch UAC off so that I could install apache and php5 on my Vista 64bit.

Today being one of those days when I had some time to kill, I decided to watch a movie that was store on my external USB drive.

Now the fun has begun.

IE8 - Does it break things?

I have come across a lot of blogs in the last week, all are complaining about how Internet Explorer 8 is breaking websites.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta

After reluctantly installing this, for fear of not being able to develop for older versions I was surprised to learn that it is very polished.

Microsoft - Praise where Praise is due

I had the unfortunate reality of taking my computer in to get repaired, due to the fact that the CPU was overheating way to much.

The short of it was that the tech guy, when pulling the heatsink of to replace pulled the CPU out with it and broke a pin on the CPU.

Poking Fun At Microsoft Surface

Sometimes when you take a back step to something, you usually get to see things in a different light.
