Over the weekend I had done a fair amount of ripping my music onto the Hard Drive, to later use on my iPod. I later came across some I had done a few years ago, and tried to copy it over to my portable drive. This posed a problem for me when I did that, because the information needed to tell the software I use to catalogue the music which needed the information filled in, which was missing for some reason.
No big deal I thought, so I went and proceeded to enter the Album and Artist information Manually.
This is where I ran into serious trouble!

After reading a news report, were the victim was able to help police recover his own laptop. Got me to thinking about my own security, mainly my desktop.

The answer will always be yes, provided that the HD has not been erased with security in mind.
Well a few weeks ago, I was given a laptop to use and I do not know what I did. But it refused to boot anymore, and restoring from original CD was not an option.
It appears that Windows Vista, locked the Hard drive from further use.
So what did I do!

After many months, well a year to be precise. I decided to switch UAC off so that I could install apache and php5 on my Vista 64bit.
Today being one of those days when I had some time to kill, I decided to watch a movie that was store on my external USB drive.
Now the fun has begun.

Awhile ago I blogged how the firewall that comes with Windows XP and Vista is not very secure, and that the suer should look at a more secure alternative. Now it seems that Vista is comming under more flaws than people are claiming.

I am writing this because I read a blog titled "Vista's honeymoon is over" and I will say that it is well and truley over. Even though its not very long that Vista has been released, there is a seriously huge amount of negative comments on Windows Vista. And anyone who has followed my ramblings on this subject will know that I am seriously not happy with the product in a number of ways.

If it wasn't for the fact that I have installed windows Vista twice on the same computer, I wouldn't have believed it if I had seen it for myself.
But I will ask how does microsoft work this rating system out, the website si clear enough, But look at the results for yourself.

When Microsoft released Windows defender, I thought I would d/l this application and give it a go. Back then running on XP I thought that it was a great little tool, because it let you know what was modifying things within your system.
On Vista this does do the same thing, but there is an added feature that you will not be aware of.

Windows Vista is claimed to be the most secure windows to date, well in way it is but if you read my Windows Firewal post you will see it is not.
However what Microsoft has done, is denied you the main account who is part of the administrators account access to the most basic things.

I dont dual boot operating systems that often, but since installing Windows Vista I have found that I can't edit the booting information, you know the information that says which OS you would like to boot.
